we all wear masks
we all pretend
we all wish life
was different
than it is.
we all wear masks
we all pretend
we all wish life
was full of all our hopes.
we all wear masks
we all pretend
we all wish life
was abundant.
we all wear masks
we all pretend
we wish things
were different
we wish and
we wish.

Note: This particular poem was written sometime during my freshman year at college. Poetry was the thing I had gotten into while a senior in high school thanks to meeting up and becoming friends with a John Lennon look-a-like. Carlos (a.k.a. John Lennon) was the one who got me into photography and film making, as well as writing poetry. There’s a whole story in this little time of my life, but I won’t bore you with it. Simply put, this poem is a reflection of the current times. We’re all wearing masks now, because of the “beverage bug” and our views of this life are threaded through this poem from fifty years ago. Something to ponder.
